A much less interesting date after the fun of 1-11-11. Today I did a nice warm up at my sister's house in Wallingford. The strangest thing happened when first one neighborhood cat and then another came and sat on the porch- while I was practicing. Normally cats who don't live with brass players run the other way. It was quite cute and I did take a photo.
Chris L. came over at 3 pm and we had an hour and a half coaching.
I played:
Bach B minor mass ( I have a February performance...)
Beethoven Fidelio Overture horn 2
Beethoven Symphony #9 Horn 4
Beethoven Symphony #3 horn 2
Tchaikovsky Symphony #5 horn 1 solo
Shostakovich low call horn 2
Mahler Symphony #1 the low horn tune
We then had a nice Italian meal at the tiniest place, Da Pino. (http://cafedapino.com/) Quite good- I had ravioli and pesto sauce and Chris had ravioli with beet pesto. We each had a glass of montepulcianno wine and he had tiramisu for dessert, while I have triple chocolate cake.
It was a pleasure to work with my old teacher and I plan to see him again later in the Spring.
At this point I am reading Bill Bryson's a short history of almost everything and recommending to everyone. Chris is planning on getting it today.
